Marketing to Women
September 03, 2009, by Staff WriterPosted in Advertising Your Small Business | 0 commentsA marketer’s dream: one person who makes 80% of an entire household’s apparel purchases, 70% of all travel decisions, and 70% of all health and wellness decisions. Well, that person exists and she is called a female. In a great Small Business Trends article, the virtues of marketing to women are discussed.
Women are first females and THEN a consumer. If you want to effectively market to females you must understand these gender differences.
1. Success. Men want to be independent; women want to be indispensible.

Common Website Mistakes and Errors Small Businesses Make
July 30, 2009, by Staff WriterPosted in Advertising Your Small Business, Small Business Screw Ups, Tips and Tricks | 1 commentsMany small to medium businesses invest a lot of time and money into their websites. Their wise investment to establish a virtual home for their business where customers can find information at all times can be a waste if simple mistakes are overlooked.
In a great article from “Small Business Trends” common website errors in small businesses are discussed. Below are the highlights from the article. The full article can be found here.
No Design= No Credibility
“Building a professional looking Web site is one of the most powerful ways to gain instant credibility with visitors. When someone lands on your site, they’re going to take one glance and immediately use it to determine whether or not they can trust your business. If your site looks too standard or like you just threw it together in an hour with things not in their proper place, they probably won’t find you trustworthy enough to do business with. And they’ll leave for a competitor.”

Using Twitter to Fill Appointments
July 23, 2009, by Staff WriterPosted in Advertising Your Small Business, In the News, Tips and Tricks | 0 commentsToday, the New York Times published an article about mom-and-pop business owners using social media to boost business. For small businesses with no ad-budget, twitter seems to be the perfect solution. (For tips on how to use Twitter, check out this blog post).
“Small businesses typically get more than half of their customers through word of mouth, and Twitter is the digital manifestation of that. Twitter users broadcast messages of up to 140 characters in length, and the culture of the service encourages people to spread news to friends in their own network,” said the article.
Twitter is not only for e-commerce businesses and companies with a website. It can be used to make the corner shop known to people three cities away, or tourists coming to your town. The Times tells the story of Chris Mann, the owner of a spa in Cincinnati who uses twitter to advertise discounted massages and manicures every Tuesday.
Using Twitter to advertise discounted service appointments is a great way to fill perishable appointments. Here are a few tips for making your business tweets more effective.

July 09, 2009, by Staff WriterPosted in Advertising Your Small Business, In the News | 0 commentsOver the past few days, there has been more coverage on Bing, Microsoft’s new search engine than I know what to do with. How to Name Your Business– Why Rebranding and Naming are Hard
June 24, 2009, by Ryan DonahuePosted in Advertising Your Small Business, In the News | 1 commentsAs I sat down to write this post, I was planning on writing something really short, just to announce our big re-branding news. However, as I sat here thinking about our experience, I felt compelled to sound off a bit on the subject of how to name your business. But first, our big news must be announced!
Horray! HourTown Changed its Name!
We are extremely excited to announce that tonight, June 24th 2009 at 10pm PDT, HourTown changed its name to BookFresh. In addition to changing our name, you’ve probably noticed that we launched a brand-spanking-new website! We’ve been trying our best to communicate these upcoming changes to everyone over the past couple months, but we realize, people don’t like change and some of you may be feeling like this change has come completely unexpected. Just to clear things up, we started notifying all our customers approximately two months ago, so as the expression goes “don’t say we didn’t warn you!”.

The Business of Massage Therapy
March 03, 2009, by Matt RowePosted in Advertising Your Small Business, In the News, Tips and Tricks | 2 commentsWe're always on the lookout for blogs and articles that might be interesting to our customers. I ran across this blog sometime back and wanted to share it. I think that the author makes many points on how to reach out to your customers. We've also observed that HourTown merchants who invite their customers to book online, get an uptake and an immediate response as far as new appointments.

Websites for Accountants
March 02, 2009, by Matt RowePosted in Advertising Your Small Business, Tips and Tricks | 0 commentsSince it's tax season, we have noticed a lot more accountants using our service. Websites for accountants most often have a description of the company, some photos and contact information, but what the customer really wants is to schedule an appointment.
We are thrilled that great businesses like Valley Tax Preparation are using our service to offer online appointments to their clients during tax season. Valley Tax Preparation has really setup their website nicely. We always recommend that you include at least one service called "free consultation" and use it as an opportunity to chat by phone or in person and sell yourself to the potential client.
If you are scheduling with your accountant soon, make sure to mention HourTown. It's a great website solution for an accountant and will save them (and you) a lot of time this tax season.
