  • Does the Health Care Mess Affect Entrepreneurship and Small Businesses?

The New York Times recently featured an article discussing the very timely and controversial topic of health care yesterday. The costs associated with health care have reached an all-time high and are negatively impacting entrepreneurial activity. Below are three of the effects the Times discusses in the article.

    Inability to Offer Insurance

For many small to medium business owners, the growing costs of health insurance makes it difficult and sometimes impossible to offer employee benefits. According to the US Small Business Administration’s Small Business Economy 2009, 25% of small business employees do not have health insurance.

    Reduction of Health Care Benefits

Another effect of the high costs is a reduction of coverage for those who still offer insurance to their employees. According to the Commonwealth fund, small businesses pay 18% more than large businesses to pay similar insurance coverage.

  • Who gets SMS Text Messages?

We occasionally get asked why staff members are not receiving text messages when an online appointment request is made.

At the moment, staff members who are not the account owner, do not have access to log into the service to accept or deny appointment requests that have been made. Only the account owner has the ability to log into the account. As such, staff members receive text messages when an appointment has been accepted and added to their calendar. Staff members will also receive text messages when an appointment that is on their calendar is changed, or is removed from their calendar. The account owner can receive a text message that an appointment request has been made so that they can log into the service and accept the request.

We have received feedback that our online scheduling software would work better if the individual staff members had the ability to manage their own schedules and appointments directly. We've heard you and will have some new features around this out soon.

    So Stay tuned!

  • HourTown Notification Emails

HourTown goes to great lengths to insure that you always receive an instant email notification whenever a customer schedules an appointment with you using our system. However, due to the increasingly aggressive spam and junk mail filters being implemented by email providers, occasionally we will receive a complaint from a concerned business owner reporting to us that they "didn't get our email". To prevent this, we recommend that you check your spam and junk mail folders and mark messages from HourTown as a "safe" or "trusted" sender.
