Find Out How!

It’s easy to decide to start a business and come up with new and innovative approaches to health and wellness care. But as soon as the entrepreneur is confronted by the gargantuan task of actually running a business and turning these ideas into reality, they’ll discover many obstacles and setbacks hindering their goals. Or they’ll find that even the best ideas do not necessarily have the best interests of the business in mind. It is the job of a business coach to steer small business owners and first-time entrepreneurs towards the right direction. As a small business coach, you need to use your skills and experiences to provide creative solutions to your clients’ problems.

Small Business Coaching vs Business Consulting

On the surface, it seems as though the work of a small business coach is no different from a business consultant. However, there are subtle differences. A business coach involves nurturing the business owner and helping him or her grow. Coaching helps the entrepreneur discern goals that need to be met, create a realistic business plan that will achieve the goals, determine and avoid ways to self-sabotage the business, and teaches the entrepreneur to be accountable for meeting goals within a specific timeframe. In other words, a small business coach is there to motivate and empower the entrepreneur to create the business of his or her dreams. Consulting, on the other hand, offers information and expert advice on managing the business.

To make the difference clearer, let’s say that the prospective client is working on a task list for the month ahead. A consultant might say, “These are the tasks that you need to do for the next month so you can achieve your goals.” On the other hand, a business coach asks, “What are the tasks you need to accomplish next month so you can reach your goals?”

Business coaching and business consulting do not have to be accomplished by two separate professionals; a business coach-consultant can do both!

The Coaching Relationship

As a business coach, you are in charge of helping your clients in the health and wellness care industry move forward by listing their goals, coming up with a strategic plan to implement the goals, and formulating a framework that will lead your client to success. The relationship between you and your client, therefore, is more like a supportive, behind-the-scenes partnership. You are there to encourage and support your client and assist in any way possible.

Customized Coaching Plans

Although your job is to provide support for your client, you do not have to hold his or her hand every step of the way. Coaching sessions are typically done weekly, in person or over the phone, and are more like classes. Every week, you give your clients “homework” – ask them what assignment and goals they’d like to accomplish during the week to provide them with motivation to drive their business forward over the next six days. Depending on the needs of your client, you may also want to provide them with assessments, worksheets, and reading assignments. Find out what your clients’ needs and goals are before you begin your working relationship.
