While trade shows are also meant for attracting press and consumer interest in various new products and services—especially technological products—trade shows are also meant to bring vendors and buyers together. Businesspeople experienced in networking stress the importance of a lasting impression when getting to know people. First, you should remember to bring your business cards. It’s better if your business cards are memorable, and descriptive of the business you’re in. You should also mind your appearance. This does not necessarily mean you should be in formal attire. It depends on the nature of your business and the nature of a networking event. For instance, an IT-oriented event would be teeming with software developers, who will most likely be in smart casuals. An event mostly corporate in nature would usually mean a coat-and-tie event, though especially if the event is being hosted over dinner or cocktails.

Remember that when you get acquainted with fellow businesspeople and entrepreneurs during networking events, you might not expect these new relationships to be fruitful in the short term. Rather, having fellow entrepreneurs in your contact list would prove to be useful at one point in your business, when you will be needing these for various services, products, or recommendations.
