Do Team Building Seminars Work?

Team building seminars are usually organized without putting much thought into them. Oftentimes, team building is seen as a way to boost low employee morale or strengthen professional relationships within the organization. However, if you really come to think about it, is there really productivity when it comes to going through such activities as leadership seminars and corporate team building? Are the participants able to benefit from such activities?

More often than not, the answer is no. This is not to say that team building seminars do not really work. This is because the essence of team building is forgotten so its real value is lost. There are even times that team buildings are taken as opportunities to change management or to deliver some bad news. If that is the case, what exactly is team building all about?

The True Purpose

Team building seminars are just not once a year events hoping to fix some workplace issues, which are actually rooted elsewhere. One must understand that a day of team building can work these issues out, because team buildings actually serve the purpose of letting the team members gather new skills or talk about new ideas. These seminars do not seek to train employees of skills that already exist or to make reminders on how to do things.

Team building seminars are actually avenues for discoveries. They can open up ways on how to deal with current behaviors through other positive alternatives. It also allows the participants to be inspired in getting a hand at things new to them, wherein they might find out something about themselves, their skills in particular, that they never knew before. Finally, it encourages the team members to have a different mindset by thinking more creatively.

Team Building Activities

The activities at team buildings must not be considered as off-the-shelf products because they have to be tailored according to your expectations and situations. What the organization wants to achieve must be therefore put into utmost consideration when planning the whole event.

Speaking of planning, team building seminars should be taken as seriously as any major event in the company. The activities must be structured according to the needs of the participating members. The workshops included must be inspirational, uplifting, and helpful in the enhancement of the participants? skills. Usually, there are workshops in time management and even in stress management, and if you feel that there is a need for these two, then by all means go ahead.

As regards to break and lunch times, the tables must be set up to encourage discussion among the participants. This is not the time to have separate tables for groups of friends. Consider these times as opportunities for networking and for sharing with other people.

The expenses incurred at team building seminars vary depending on the location and the activities. However, one must not worry about the cost especially if you focused on the planning and preparation phase with the good notes at hand. With that, you can be assured that the team building seminar you are organizing will work.
