Fresh graduates are able to secure jobs even without prior related experience through young professional networking. A professional networking group is a collection of professionals who acquire and give out referrals to others either for employment or business transactions. Professionals in a networking group can be licensed individuals, job seekers, employers, entrepreneurs, small business owners, executives of big companies, and much more. Young professionals can join these individuals in a networking event or get together and form their own network.
Networking groups and opportunities can be found anywhere. Below are several venues for starting or joining a network. Before immersing in these networking events, young professionals should ready their resume, business cards, and introductory speeches.
Personal Level Networking
Young professionals can start networking within their family and friend circle. They could ask family and friends of persons whom they know could help them get a professional start. Contacts found in this way are more likely to refer a young professional since they are affiliated with the young professional’s family.
Seminars and Conventions
Young professionals should join local conferences and events that are related to their profession or to the professional network that they want to establish. Networking forums like these can have professionals and employers who are willing to provide opportunities for young professionals. These gatherings can also have free young professional networking groups that they can join.
Chambers of Commerce
There are young professional networking groups available in chambers of commerce all over the country. Chambers of commerce can be local, ranging from within a neighborhood in a town, city, or state, or international. Chambers of commerce, sometimes referred to as boards of trade, are business networks that advocate in behalf of the business community. Young professionals may ask their town or city representative, or the director of their prospective chambers of commerce for events, conferences, and other opportunities for young professionals.
Online Young Professional Networking
Young professional networking groups can also be found online through professional networking and social networking service websites.
A professional networking service works in the same way as in traditional networking—the only difference is that it is done through the Internet. One example of a professional networking site is LinkedIn.com. LinkedIn was launched in May 2003 as a business-oriented networking site with an aim for professional networking for business owners. The services can also be availed of by job seekers looking for jobs, and by employers looking for potential candidates. The website works by presenting a member’s profile page to viewers for assessment of skills and qualifications.
Young professionals could also use their social networking accounts (like MySpace and Facebook) to form or join a professional network. Albeit being purposed for social interactions, these networking websites could still function in the same way as professional networking sites do. There are some small businesses and professionals who join social networking sites to form additional professional networks.
