Find Out How!

Almost every type of business involves selling thus excellent training in the field of sales is essential to success. Sales training can take many forms but the most prominent are in the form of sales training manuals.

Numerous sales training firms have sprouted, resulting to an enormous number of sales training manuals being put out in the market. Because of this, employees, professionals and employers are overwhelmed.

Before investing on a sales training manual, an individual should assess his/her level of sales skills. For employers, they should determine the sales ability of their employees.

Determine Selling Approach

Next, the individual or company’s desired selling approach should be ascertained. Selling approaches could either be hard or soft. A hard approach requires a salesperson to be outstandingly firm and strong in closing and objection handling. A soft approach requires the salesperson to highly prioritize the needs of his/her client.

Afterwards, a specific training technique should be decided upon based on the assessment. Basic training techniques include: Methodology, Product and Industry, Motivational, and Skills-based. In methodological training, a salesperson is trained on how to perform the essential steps of making a sale. For Product and Industry, salespersons are trained based on their company’s industry and the products or services they offer. Motivational training encompasses persuading a client to accept a product or service. Finally, skills-based training educates the salesperson in all the skills needed in succeeding a sale.

A sales training manual should be based on the needed skills of a person, his/her desired selling approach, and his/her chosen training option. However, the individual or employer should consider the following characteristics in deciding a sales training manual of choice:

The sales training manual should be easily understandable. Check the articles contained in the manual. If available, reviews by previous users of the sales training manual should also be examined.

The manual should contain the essential steps of a sale. Such steps are: consent, passing of ownership, application and due settlement of a price. A sale begins with a prospective buyer who consents to acquiring a product presented. The passing of ownership is usually an agreement between the buyer and seller on terms (such as the price) that would facilitate a sale. Application and settlement is simply the actual payment in exchange for the product or service.

The manual should present selling techniques with descriptions, comparisons, and easy-to-follow examples. A sale can be performed through a number of techniques like direct selling, pro forma sales, agency-based sales, traveling salesmen, request for proposals, business-to-business sales, electronic selling, mail orders, and other sales methods. It should have a sufficient number of selling techniques that suit your business type and products.

Additionally, a good sales training manual may include concepts on ethics, professionalism, customer situations handling, and customer satisfaction. It could also cover some technical aspects of business management and marketing.
