Health and wellness professionals are more commonly known to be involved in the medical and affiliated industries. Hospitals, clinics, health centers and even schools are common place where doctors, nurses, therapists and others seek employment. However, if you are a health and wellness professional, have you considered getting involved in the sports niche? Health and wellness personnel are very much in demand in the athletics fields because of the tendency for sportsmen and women to be injured in the course of their training and competitions.
Here are some ways you can expand your reach by getting involved in sports.
Athletics Teams
One way for health and wellness professionals to be involved in sports is by joining athletics teams as a support consultant or staff. Some of these teams might be involved in training for competitions, tournaments or even the Olympics. And apart from requiring great athletes and coaches, teams also need other non-athletic people on the staff, such as doctors, nurses, nutritionists, fitness trainers, and the like.Schools
Another great opportunity in sports would be in schools and academic institutions. Not only do schools focus on learning, but well-rounded schools also have extensive athletics programs. Schools are often on the lookout for people who can improve the state of their athletics programs, especially during inter-school competition seasons. Schools are almost always very competitive with each other. School spirit builds up morale, after all, which can help with students’ attitude with learning.Professional Athletics Teams
Schools and athletics teams may sometimes be on the amateur side, in that there’s no big money in training for the Olympics or school sports. If you go professional, though, you stand the chance of making it big. Professional teams, like those in the NBA, NFL and other team sports, also need support personnel, like doctors, medics, nurses, and the like. Experienced practitioners can expect hefty paychecks, especially if the team is a popular one that often wins championships.
As an alternative, you can work directly with professional athletes who need their personal health and fitness staff. Some athletes consult with their teams’ health personnel, while some have their own staff on the payroll.
Your Local Gym or Fitness Club
Lastly, there are other places where you can practice your health and wellness-oriented profession without necessarily having to join athletics teams. There are also your local gym or fitness clubs that might run some sports trainings, clinics and programs. While there are professionals who handle the actual trainings, like for tennis clinics, badminton, basketball and the like, these institutions also need health professionals to help with emergencies. They might also need nutrition experts to consult with, if students and athletes need help with their diet or regimen.
Getting into the sports niche might require some specialization or training in sports-specific skills, such as sports medicine, therapy, and the like. However, getting into a sports career might be a lucrative move, especially for health and fitness practitioners who can get involved in professional sports.
