Advantages of Joining an Association

Chiropractors join their field’s professional groups to avail of the numerous benefits being offered. Several of them are discussed below.

Protection of Practice. The main reason for joining a chiropractic association would be to have a supporting body should you face threats to your career. You could be an employed chiropractor who is receiving unfair compensation for your services. You may also be facing legal charges on grounds that are not entirely of your fault. In either way, your chiropractic association can help you address these problems.

Enhancement of Practice. Another perk of being in a chiropractor association is the availability of opportunities for skills improvement. Your professional organization sponsors conferences, seminars, and symposiums on a yearly basis to enhance the knowledge and skills of their members. They also provide updates on the latest trends and technologies in chiropractic practices through organizational newsletters or magazines.

Professional Credits. Due to the provision of knowledge and skills enhancement activities by these organizations, you are able to earn several professional credits every year. These credits are one requirement for obtaining or renewing your chiropractic license.

Career Advancement. Being in a professional chiropractic organization assures you of opportunities for moving up your career ladder. Your association can introduce you to other professionals in your field, of whom you can learn about other chiropractic designations. They can give recommendations to your employer, which is helpful in job promotion. Also, they can help you get advanced chiropractic education by endorsing you to schools offering Master’s or Doctorate degrees related to chiropractic medicine.

Chiropractic Organizations

There are a lot of chiropractic associations you can affiliate with. Your state or area may have groups that tend to the needs of local practitioners. In addition, you can choose to affiliate with several other national and international associations. Here is a list of these chiropractic associations:

American Chiropractic Association (ACA). The ACA, which is based in Arlington, Virginia, is the largest professional association that represents chiropractic doctors. The association offers lobbying, public relations, professional and educational opportunities, chiropractic research funding and leadership opportunities for members.

Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA). This not-for-profit organization was formed in the late 1960’s consisting of state chiropractic associations. It provides significant services to member state associations. As a Congress, it aims to facilitate and open, nonpartisan forum for promoting and advancing the chiropractic profession.

International Chiropractors Association (ICA). The ICA is the world’s oldest worldwide international chiropractic organization. Its mission is to promote chiropractic as a distinct healthcare profession with its own philosophy, science, and art.

World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC). This organization was formed at the 1988 World Chiropractic Congress held in Sydney Australia. It has partnered with various national and international organizations that represent every aspect of the profession, like education, research, examining, and licensing. Due to this, it has been able to facilitate forum discussions of international issues faced by the profession.
