Find Out How!

There is a developing culture of successful business entrepreneurs called social networking professionals. These individuals are basically businessmen who have utilized social networking sites as tools to obtain business referrals—and in the end, flourished in their business niche. You too can become one of them by simply creating a profile page on any social networking website.

History

The concept of a social network service was derived from the approach that users of electronically linked computers could form an electronic social interaction. With the Internet as the “link,” early social networking sites where set up like Theglobe.com (1994), Geocities(1994), and Tripod(1995) that provided online interactions for users through online chat and by hosting personal websites. Other websites with these services continued to flourish but from 2002 to 2004, three websites which provided enhanced social network services came about. These are: Friendster, MySpace, and Bebo. Others came about including Facebook, LinkedIn, and the more recent Twitter.

How is it done?

Social network sites, in the business sense, work by displaying a company or businessperson’s profile to members of the social networking website. Details and contact information are displayed with the sole purpose of attracting a number of contacts or clients who would like to do business with the profile page’s owner. The content of the profile page therefore, should be of a professional tone that discloses pertinent information of the company or businessman that would interest a potential business partner or client. A profile page displays a list of ways on how to contact the company or business professional like through e-mail, telephone and mobile number, fax number, and through a company website (if available). Most parties who contact a profile page’s owner send an e-mail to the address indicated on the page. The profile owner receives the message and responds to the prospect’s queries, or convinces the prospect to do business with him/her/them.

To create a profile page, business professionals simply need to sign up with any social networking website of their choice. They have to have a free e-mail account with any e-mail provider to serve as their “box” that would receive queries, invites, and others from prospective page visitors.

Is it effective?

Social networking has been used since its birth for business purposes. Numerous entrepreneurs and small businesses utilized social networking services primarily to expand their contact bases—all at a low cost. Networks also serve as a tool for retail companies to continuously keep in touch with suppliers and customers. At times, social network sites are the venues for creating partnerships with other professionals or small businesses. Several entrepreneurs, through social network services, have found other entrepreneurs whom they could work with. They get together and set up a joint business venture.

Bigger companies also use social network websites in advertising through banners and text ads pasted on profile pages. Social networks also serve as communication mediums for businesses and professionals all over the globe.

Social networking websites that are aimed at professionals are also being put up. Websites such as LinkedIn.com are business-oriented and used for online networking. These websites act as a storage list for professionals of the contact details of individuals and other professionals they know.

Social networking services are beneficial as business tools in marketing and contact-gathering and management. It has a lot more business potential and can revolutionize the way business is done.
