This is probably cliché already, but these days it’s a good idea to have a strong web presence. If you run a blog detailing your experiences as a wedding entertainer, or if you can even upload videos of your performances, then this will be a good starting point for people who might be looking for an entertainer for their wedding. You can also join social networks and participate in groups that are related to weddings, where you can talk about your opinions and experience in the industry. If you are able to keep discussions and posts consistent and keyword-rich, you will most likely be favoured by search engines, and your blog or social network profile has a good chance of being on the front page when someone Googles for “wedding singer,” “wedding entertainer” or “wedding band.”
Look for Non-Wedding Gigs
Perform at non-wedding related functions. Whether you run a band or if you are a solo artist, you can perform at events or functions that are not related to weddings. For instance, you can perform at bars and restaurants. Or you can sing at corporate functions. You can even serve as opening act for other bands or artists. This way, you establish your name or the name of your band as a memorable brand in the minds of people who see you perform.
Invest in Quality Cards and Brochures
Leave brochures with churches, couturier boutiques, florist’s shops and wedding planner offices. A lot of engaged couples seek the assistance of wedding coordinators in planning and executing their wedding activities. It’s a good idea to have attractive and eye-catching brochures printed, and these should include your contact information and rates. If you have the budget you can also include an audio CD or video DVD with a sample of your performances.
Wedding Industry Networks
Affiliate with other wedding service providers. Aside from just leaving brochures at other service providers’ offices, why not get affiliated with the florist, dressmaker, or even the wedding coordinator? You can offer discounts to clients who get in touch with you through these affiliates. And to encourage the affiliated companies or providers sto recommend your services to their clients, you can offer them a small share of your professional fee. This way, everyone wins. The client gets a discount, the other service provider gets a commission, and you get a contract for your services.
Wedding Industry Trade Shows
If you have the time, you can participate in trade shows that feature the products services of wedding service providers and suppliers. These trade shows usually only happen once or a few times per year, and are usually organized by trade organizations, wedding magazines, so it’s a good opportunity to take advantage of.
For a wedding entertainer, the best way to market are through below-the-line marketing and advertising, which means you don’t necessarily have to spend big money on commercial advertisements. Instead, invest your time and money on establishing a strong presence in your community and in the industry, so that people will get to know you and acquire your services based on how they like your performance and style.
