Find Out How!

Female fitness trainers are increasing in popularity. These fitness trainers are women who serve women. True, almost all male fitness trainers are well-educated and are professional enough to deal with the opposite sex. However, there are certain details that women feel uncomfortable sharing with their male trainers.

Women need a good girlfriend or a female fitness trainer to share their concerns with. It is second nature for women. Voicing out private information about the female body, health, and fitness to a male fitness instructor just wouldn’t work. Women find this awkward; no matter how good are the intentions of male instructors. Men just cannot connect to women on an emotional level, on this and that, and on that “specific day of the month.” With the increasing number of health-conscious women, clearly, female fitness training is growing to be a bankable career.

Getting Started

Becoming a female fitness trainer starts in the same way as any fitness trainer. Would-be female trainers should decide what exercise forms they would like to teach. They can choose to specialize in a number of exercises the world has to offer like aerobics, kickboxing, weight-lifting, general body-building, yoga, and pilates. Afterwards, they should obtain the necessary training and workshops corresponding to their chosen field. They should also take up courses related to health and wellness. If possible, they should enroll in a fitness-related course, like physical therapy or nutrition. Having related educational credits and credentials increases a trainer’s employability and marketability.

Hopeful female fitness trainers should also take up fitness programs provided by major fitness organizations like American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Academy of Sports Medicine, and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). Fitness trainers affiliated with these organizations have an increased rate in employment and securing clients. Since the nature of the job is “teaching” or “instructing,” female fitness trainers ought to take up education units or workshops on individual and group instruction.

Certification

After acquiring the necessary knowledge on their desired exercise field, female fitness instructors have to obtain certification. Certifications are given out by the same major fitness organizations mentioned above. Other certifying bodies exist and are based per state or county.

Aspiring trainers would have to go through an examination before being conferred as a certificate holder. Before an exam, examinees would be required to undergo refresher classes often lasting for a few hours to a day. A list of materials and references for study would usually be provided.

The exam is divided into written and practical tests. The written portion would deal with exercise types, physiology, bone and muscle movement, metabolism, and the like. The practical test, on the other hand, is done to test an instructor’s teaching methodology and its effectiveness.

Finding Clients

Once education, training, certification, and ample experience are obtained, female trainers can now reach out to fellow female fitness enthusiasts. They can apply for a trainer position in a gym or health club, or go the independent route and set up their own fitness program. Female fitness trainers usually start with one client or a small group but in time, their client base will grow. The most important aspect to retaining clients is to be professional and respectful of fellow females. A “bond” must be forged with clients to allay their fears and hesitancies.

Fitness is a goal that should be achieved by everybody. Health is a principal element that should be maintained for optimum functioning. Fitness trainers are available to help men and women achieve this state of well-being.
