What is entrepreneurship? This is a question that must be speculated first by any aspiring entrepreneur. It is imperative that one knows the basic tenets of entrepreneurship lest he wastes hard earned money. Besides, a deeper understanding of it is one of the key factors to being successful.

Entrepreneurship can be defined as the process of starting a new organization. In simple terms, it is actually starting your own business. Thus, anyone could be an entrepreneur, although it is not an easy task to do. This is due to the fact and observation that a lot of new businesses do not succeed.

Additional Definitions

Is that what entrepreneurship is all about? A simple definition doesn’t necessarily mean that it is tantamount to a simple procedure. Economists further define what entrepreneurship is to have a fuller understanding of it. Joseph Schumpeter said that entrepreneurship is all about the transformation of raw ideas into tangible innovations. This definition is evident on the always evolving standing of the market today, which thrives on change and breeds dynamism.

Other economists, such as Frank Knight ad Peter Drucker relate entrepreneurship with taking risks. Indeed, an entrepreneur is willing to face risks an invest time, money, and energy just to realize a vision that he firmly believes in. Knight further classified what type of risk an entrepreneur is willing to dive into. According to him, a risk that is impossible to measure with statistics or to predict with forecasts is the real risk that an entrepreneur takes.

Entrepreneurship and Novelty

Entrepreneurship often brings something new to the market. For every idea, there is a possible new market that could be catered to. It is up to the entrepreneur to realize this idea and create a market for it. If a market is already present for a particular product or service, there is still no assurance that the same market will bite into the new but similar product or service. Otherwise, it might just be up to the entrepreneur to tap the market.

Entrepreneurship as a Hobby

What you love to do and what you could make money from is a type of entrepreneurship that is gaining popularity. Known as LILO entrepreneurship, or “a little in, a lot out,” it only demands minimal resources to begin with and to start its operations. With no business plans and shooting for a trial-and-error approach, it could be a perfect set-up for beginning entrepreneurs to minimize the cost that could be incurred due to errors.

Do you have a hobby that you would like to make money from? Do you now have an understanding of what is entrepreneurship about? If the answer is yes, and if you have what it takes to be one, go ahead. There are now many organizations and support groups that give assistance to budding entrepreneurs. Whether these are government agencies or private organizations, they could guide you further as you go along in the world of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship brings boundless benefits not only for yourself, but also to the society that you belong to. It is one great accomplishment that could have a lasting impact and that could probably change your life forever.
